Features

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y debut

Mewtwo’s Mega Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, will make their Pokémon GO debut during GO Fest 2026: Global.

Mewtwo can now Mega Evolve into either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y, including Mewtwo you’ve already caught.

Starting during this event, Trainers can earn Mewtwo Mega Energy X and Mewtwo Mega Energy Y by defeating Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y in Super Mega Raid Battles and by completing event Timed Research.

Defeat Mega Mewtwo X in Super Mega Raids to earn the energy needed to Mega Evolve Mewtwo into Mega Mewtwo X.

Defeat Mega Mewtwo Y in Super Mega Raids to earn the energy needed to Mega Evolve Mewtwo into Mega Mewtwo Y.

Every Mewtwo caught from Super Mega Battles during GO Fest: Global will have at least one Mega Level unlocked and can be Mega Evolved without the initial energy cost. If you’re lucky, it may be at Mega Level 2 or 3.

Mega Mewtwo requires more Mega Energy than typical Mega Evolutions, so planning raid paths and Timed Research rewards can help you unlock both forms faster.

Mega Evolution system updates

Additional Mega Evolution updates are planned around GO Fest timing:

  • Trainers will be able to spend extra Mega Energy to progress Mega Levels faster.
  • For species with multiple Mega Evolutions, Mega Level progression is tracked separately for each form (such as Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y).

Special Research: Zeraora

For the first time in Pokémon GO, Trainers can complete Special Research to encounter Zeraora, the Thunderclap Pokémon.

Trainers who log in during event weekend will receive this Special Research, and it does not expire.

During each hour of the event, different Pokémon will appear in the wild, themed around a specific type.
