New Special Backgrounds
Pokémon caught from Mega Raids during the Mega Ascension event and Mega Finale weekend may have a Mega Evolution–themed Special Background.
Starting during the Mega Ascension event, when a Pokémon with a Mega Evolution–themed Special Background is Mega Evolved, its background will have additional effects for the duration of the Mega Evolution.
Choose your Kalos first partner Pokémon
Start your journey by completing branching Timed Research where you can choose Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie. Complete this Timed Research to get GO Pass: Mega Finale, which will include rewards to help you Mega Evolve the Pokémon you chose!
The free GO Pass: Mega Finale includes enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your chosen partner once. Trainers who upgrade to the GO Pass Deluxe can earn enough additional Mega Energy to raise their chosen partner’s Mega Level.

Habitats and Raid Schedule
There are a total of eight habitats. Four will appear each event day two times each.
Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will appear in Super Mega Raids at certain Gyms. Mega Raid Bosses at other Gyms will rotate with the active habitat, and Armored Mewtwo will also appear in five-star raids on both event days.

Seasonal schedule note
Daily Discoveries, Seasonal Mega Raids, Seasonal Five-Star Raids, Seasonal Shadow Raids, Seasonal Raid Hours, and Seasonal Spotlight Hours will not take place during the Mega Ascension event and Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale. Mega Ascension and Mega Finale Raids will take their place starting Monday, August 31, at 12:01 a.m. to Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time.
